Forward Week 2: TrustMe

Welcome To REUNION

We are glad that you are here. We hope that you feel save, welcomed and relaxed. We are going to read the Bible, pray, sing a few songs and listen to a short Lead In. We might even have discussions

But.. you’re invited to participate as much as you want.

No expects you to speak or share. We do invite you to remain present. We believe that remaining present - even in our minds - is an act of love.

Today’s Notes:

  • How do you make decisions?

    • Discerning the will of God for my life feels: scary, impossible, pointless, free and light?

  • Jesus didn’t come to changed God. No, Jesus came to change our image of God.

    • Therefore: If you want to know who God is look at Jesus.

    • God has always been like Jesus, there was never a time God was not like Jesus and there will never be a time when God is not like Jesus.

Psalm 40:For the choir director: A psalm of David.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols.
O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
    You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.

You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand[
a]—
you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
Then I said, “Look, I have come.
As is written about me in the Scriptures:
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.”

What stands out to you from this Psalm and why do you think that is?

There are Three Types of People who Discern God’s Will:

  • There are those who DO and Never Discern - ask questions later

  • There are those who Discern and Never DO - Struggle to move forward

    • What group do you more naturally fit into?

  • There is a group that Discerns God’s Will and Moves Forward in God’s Will - Why?

    • In verse 4 David says, “Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord.”

      • Trust in the Lord is necessary before discerning the Lord’s Will.

      • Do you Trust God? Do you Trust God is Good?

  • Trust: is it given or earned?

    • Do you naturally trust until someone breaks it?

    • Do you naturally make people earn Trust before you give it?

      • Most people fall into camp two when it comes to GOD.

      • Therefore In Order to Trust God, we have to give God the opportunity to be trusted.

      • What can you give God this week as a staring point to building trust?

Questions to Consider:

  • Discerning God’s will makes me feel __________________.

  • How do you react to this statement: If you want to know who God is look at Jesus. God has always been like Jesus, there was never a time God was not like Jesus and there will never be a time when God is not like Jesus.

    • Does you image of God look, sound and love like Jesus - how or how not?

  • Psalm 40: Read together (see above): What stands out to you and why might that be?

    • Would you consider yourself patient when it comes to discerning?

  • Three Types of People:

    • There are those who DO and Never Discern - ask questions later

    • There are those who Discern and Never DO - Struggle to move forward

      • What group do you more naturally fit into?

    • Group Three: Discerns God’s Will and Moves Forward in God’s Will - Why?

      • In verse 4 David says, “Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord.”

      • What does trusting God mean to you?

      • What doe trusting God look like to you?

  • Trust: How do people gain your trust?

    • Do you give trust until they give a reason not to?

    • Do you wait until they give you a reason to trust?

      • Wesley Said: God is okay Gaining your trust. How do you react to this statement?

      • What would it look like to give God that opportunity to gain your trust this week?
