Mosaic Week 2

Welcome To REUNION

We are glad that you are here. We hope that you feel save, welcomed and relaxed. We are going to read the Bible, pray, sing a few songs and listen to a short Lead In. We might even have discussions But.. you’re invited to participate as much as you want. No expects you to speak or share. We do invite you to remain present. We believe that remaining present - even in our minds - is an act of love.

Lead In Notes: Mosaic Week 2 - A gift to the world?

  • Art is an artist’s expression but also a gift to the world

    • what if the church was too?

  • Here at REUNION we use specific terms to clarify our meaning, to focus our purpose and even evaluate our progress.

  • We are Pupils: A Culture of ApprenticeshipWe engage, establish, equip and empower people as apprentices of Jesus because we believe that being like Jesus is a gift to the world.

    • Students study under a “Master” by submitting to their teaching and apply their practices in order that the student will become just like their teacher.

  • Jesus invited Matthew to “FOLLOW” Him (Matthew 9:9)

    • to become his disciples - his apprentice!

    • we are invited into the same type of relationship today

  • Our Purpose is to become like Jesus

    • we were created and we are now called to become gifts to our world.

How is your apprenticeship to Jesus going?

  • Key: we are all apprentices to someone or something. We are all being formed.

    • the question is less are you an apprentice but more so, “Who’s your master?”

  • How do we know if we’re growing up or just showing up?

Let’s read Matthew 22:

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35 One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[e] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Important notes:

  • MOST IMPORTANT in Greek means MEGAIE - MEGA!

    • what’s the mega, top, biggest commandment so I can evaluate my life with God?

  • Verse 38: This is the FIRST - as in first in a process or sequence

    • Meaning! If you’re doing the first: loving the Lord your God with all your heat, soul and mind… YOU WILL … love your neighbour as yourself.

    • In fact the second aspect of the sequence is the result of the first and evaluation of the first. If you’re doing the second it means you’re already doing the first.

  • According to Jesus the MEGA Commandment and indication you’re growing up is by how you love others.

    • John 13:35 says: 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

BIG QUESTION: ARE YOU GROWING UP IN LOVE OR JUST SHOWING UP TO CHURCH?

Our Horizontal love with God impacts our love for ourselves and therefore our love for others. As we Grow UP in Love we Grow Our in Love

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • Take a few moments to introduce yourself

  • How do you react or feel about our term APPRENTICE.

    • Study the Teachings of Jesus, practice the Ways of Jesus.

    • Purpose to become like Jesus.

  • Jesus says the MEGA commandment is a sequence of two: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind AND that will mean you will love your neighbours as yourself.

    • is this what you thought or think Christianity is all about?

    • Are you surprised by JESUS MEGA COMMAND?

  • How often do you evaluate your apprenticeship to Jesus?

    • thinking about Jesus MEGA Command to LOVE GOD & OTHERS how does this focus your apprenticeship?

      • is this easy to evaluate, why or why not?

  • Are you growing up in Love or just showing up to Church?

    • take a few moments to reflect and ask:

      • what is God saying to me?

      • How am I going to Respond?
